Job Description:

As an Operations Specialist, you will support both our investment management team with account maintenance, trading, reporting & analysis, and compliance management, as well as our client service advisor team by managing the underwriting of life, disability, and long-term care insurance contracts for our clients. This role requires a responsible, focused, highly organized person willing to work collaboratively with team members and partners in the Northwestern Mutual home office to deliver a superior client experience. This is a salaried position on the operations team – no sales or business development is required in this role.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage the investment account set-up process, including forms, signatures, and client contact.
  • Manage the underwriting of the firm’s life insurance, disability, and annuity products.
  • Run investment analysis and performance reports.
  • Run insurance illustrations and in-force ledgers.
  • Perform account maintenance – transfers/deposits/withdrawals, address & beneficiary changes.
  • Monitor open case inventory of account operations tasks in the process.
  • Monitor existing client policies for rating reconsideration opportunities.
  • Handle routine client service matters via e-mail, phone, and website.
  • Solve routine account compliance matters.
  • Oversee application flow and schedule medical exams.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and prospects, underwriters, producers, and fellow team members throughout the underwriting process.
  • Organize and manage case inventory and maintain status tracking reports.
  • Effectively and efficiently fund and refund life insurance premiums.

  • Ability to effectively work through challenging situations with limited formal authority.

  • Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Licensing: Life & Health licensed within 90 days of hire; FINRA Series 7 & 63 to be obtained in the first year of employment.
